11 02 21 Shed Manager Frank King writes " “ Fantastic News Just In !!! another great boost to our group, we have just been notified that two more funding bids we submitted recently to help with the cost of a Vehicle and also to create a quiet room for our members and other projects has been accepted, this now ensures that these next projects can now go ahead and we can provide the much needed quiet, safe area for our members that we have wanted to do for some time, it will also serve as a meeting area, chat area amongst many other things. This latest news is a real boost and one that we are sure will give a welcome boost to all of our members present and future, we are one step closer to completing the goals we have set for Men In sheds Lancing And Sompting, this will benefit our members and also all those in our community that we reach out to and ensure we can still take on all the community projects we want to, such as the most recent great project we helped with Brooklands Park nest boxes and feeding stations without such funding and support these would not be possible without having to charge labour, we pride ourselves on not charging labour on any of our items or projects we work on and this continued support will allow us to carry on doing just that. It truly is another pinch me moment for our group with all the success we have had in the last year and we are not finished yet we are still looking to secure other funding bids and sponsors for some other ideas we have, Updates to follow … “

A nice project to be asked to help out with, we are looking forward to seeing them in place in The Garden area, the little ones will also be pleased to see the Fairies are back again

25 01 21 Shed Manager Frank King writes "***** Great News Just In ***** We have just received confirmation that our latest funding bid via The National Lottery has been successful and will be put aside to help fund the purchase of a Vehicle for our group so we can deliver our items, collect donated materials and other items and also be able to pick up any of our members for our shed sessions that cannot drive etc, we will also be looking to use the vehicle to help out in the community as well with some ideas our Chair has seen being done by other Shed groups and is something we are all keen to look into once restrictions allow. A great start to 2021 for our group and we are one step closer to achieving our next goal
18 12 20 Shed Manager Frank King writes: "Well another few jobs ticked off the list the floor is in ( Big Thank You to Jake who helped on his weekend off with his Grandad Shedder Martin), we raised the floor up on bearers with DPM under and also the original floor has been covered completely with Tanking Slurry, We have also got some of the benches in as well and we have made a surround for the original Horse Tether Post so it can stay exactly where it has always been and be protected as well. There is also some heating installed as well and also the fire escape safety signs are installed and connected to the electrical system. Quite a few jobs ticked off the list and as each of these projects get completed it means we are getting ever closer to completing The Barn and we are well on schedule to complete in the timescale we set ourselves. The lane is also being addressed as well and will be completed this week (pictures of the works to follow when completed) the contractors even helped us with their digger at the front area of The Barn as well to enable us to start work to make the area more level for our members/visitors and safer for any mobility vehicles they may use. . We are also repurposing one of the cupboards donated to us recently and making it into a dedicated frist aid cupboard ( pictures to follow soon) .
A really good couple of weeks work has brought the project forward enough to now be able to enjoy the rest of the projects knowing we are ahead of schedule ( and we have heating ) . The next big projects will be the kitchen units from Paula Rosa, the top floor covering (repurposing donated flooring Thank You Drew) and also as the weather allows we will be working on the front area of The Barn

02 12 20 Shed Manager Frank King writes !great news today from www.prmf.co.uk the units for The Barn are now ready and can be delivered anytime to suit us, we will schedule in the delivery so it follows the phase we are working on at present which is the flooring in the lower area and the construction of the benches in what was the horse stalls, this is a great early Christmas present for us all at the shed and will be put to great use. A big Thank You again to Heather Z for designing our kitchen area from the measurements we supplied and the continuous help and support from Engineering Manager Sam Donaldson.
01 12 20 Shed Manager Frank King writes On behalf of all of us at The Shed I would like to Thank all those involved over the last few weeks in the planning and organising of the upper area of The Barn, we are so pleased to have the support of local company Paula Rosa Manhatten www.prmf.co.uk who have kindly offered to supply us with the units we need to turn the upper area of The Barn into a nice clean area for our members and a superb area to house the most important item we have in The Shed our Kettle and the sundries that go along with that. This really will make a big difference, we will be able to store so many of our things dust free with all the great cupboard space that designer Heather Z has managed to fit in for us. Paula Rosa/ Manhatten Engineering Manager Sam Donaldson has been working closely with our Shed Manager and we now have the final plans all checked and confirmed, a big Thank You to Sam for all his hard work during what is uncertain times for all of us, not once has it affected the progress, even mid lockdown Sam was still working hard for us and was asking for pictures and measurements of the area so he could keep the progress moving along, we truly are grateful and humbled by the support shown by Sam, Heather Z and all those involved in this process and having the support from a local company means so much to us. *** Thank You ***
01 12 20 Shed Manager Frank King writes "Upon opening the door today I was greeted with this great addition to our wall, another tool board has been made, installed and stocked by shedder Martin and upon further inspection I also noticed a great big lovely old clamp on the wall as well a real beauty too, it got me thinking why not make the whole area a feature of old tools so the wall now has the clamp and some old saws as well, we will add more and keep this going and perhaps even fill all of the upper wall area with old tools which are always great to look at and think how many times they have been used and what on and of course by whom.
As we add more and more some of you may even recognise a tool as you may well of donated one of them to us. By adding these to our wall they will be kept in the condition they are in for years to come and will be viewed and talked about by us and our visitors who see them. Always a good talking point in our shed are Old School tools.re to edit.

25 11 20 Shed Manager Frank King writes Well the great news this month keeps on coming for The Shed, our Shed Manager received a phone call yesterday from another funding source that we had applied to for help to complete the works needed at The Barn and we are happy to announce we have been awarded another superb boost to our funds, this will help us continue with the project and get us ever closer to achieving our goal of turning The Barn into our second shed and allowing us to also incorporate a dedicated quiet space for our Members & Visitors. A huge Thank You to Sussex Community Foundation for supporting us and deeming our project worthy of this grant we will put it to great use in the shed which will as always then have a positive effect on the community via community projects and of course our ability to take on even more members, we are truly humbled by your decision and once again would like to say Thank You from all of us at The Shed it really does make us even more confident that our project can continue to make a big difference to those who are already members, those on our list to join and also those who use our services in the community by putting these funds towards completing our second shed.
***** BREAKING NEWS *****
17 11 20 Shed Manager Frank King writes "it is with immense delight that we can confirm we have received notification that our latest funding bid for our second shed The Barn has been successful via The National Lottery Community Fund
#nationallotterycommunityfund #NationalLottery
This news is almost beyond words it allows us to fully kit out the new shed with tools from our original wishlist of tools we wanted for the barn and more, we also submitted a funding bid for materials to complete all the benches in the lower areas this can also now be done as well.
This really is the best news we could of received for our group and it will make such a difference to all those involved and all those waiting to become involved in our group and will also help us achieve our goal of setting up the extra things we want to do from The Barn such as repairs for local residents and also a teaching area for those wishing to complete their own tasks but need a little help and tuition and of course the groups in the community that we help such as the local Beavers,Guides, Scouts , Nursery Schools etc.
We really have had a great month in what is uncertain times for us all and it really does boost all of us and shows that what we are doing really does mean a lot to people and is now attracting the support that we have needed for so long.
In the last month we have been successful with the Co-op Local Causes and the National Lottery Community Fund with these and all the other support we have recieved and continue to receive from all of our supporters we really do now feel we are well on track to fulfill all that we want to do for our members (existing & new) and our local community.
Thank You so much to all the players of #TheNationalLottery without whom we would not of received this fantastic grant, we are truly humbled by your decision and will put the grant to fantastic use.

08 10 20 Shed Manager Frank King writes "We knew when obtaining The Barn that water ingress on such an old building would more than likely be an issue so measures where taken straight away upon gaining the lease , the interior lower walls where tanked to prevent water seeping through the next stage was to try and divert a lot of what was causing the huge puddles in the lane at the side of the building and that was the rain water from the side roof so guttering has now been installed and the side wall has been cleared of the weeds. The pictures clearly show what a difference this has made already and this will not only benefit ourselves but also those who use the lane to access their properties and also the allotment and also of course all the walkers that use the lane to access the beautiful South Downs. Our next aim is to try and get the area that holds the water levelled out and for that we are appealing to anyone that may have some aggregate or perhaps some left over materials from a recent driveway install such as Type1 mot or the like that they no longer need that we could use to fill the area needed, we would appreciate any help on this or even tips of where we may be able to obtain some cheaply if needed as we need to fill these areas to complete the project. Please use the form at the bottom of our home page if you have any spare or know of where we may obtain some at a reasonable cost. Many Thanks.
03 10 20 Shed Manager Frank King writes "Nice use of some old joists and ply board used to protect a driveway, these have all been used to make our overhead storage racks to house lengths of timber. Great use of recycled timber and will be very handy to keep the longer lengths of material up out of the way big Thanks to Martin and Jake for putting this up and the side boards along the roof line as well
01 10 20 Shed Manager Frank King writes "The rear door has now also had a makeover to make it watertight and secure until we are hopefully successful with one of our funding bids that have been submitted to enable us to carry out all the works needed, There was lots of different bits of wood put on here over the years, even a small piece of metal was wedged behind that looked like an old baking tray, our shed manager has saved part of the upper door and is going to re-cycle it into something new keeping up with our theme of saving and using as much of the original building as possible. The first workbench is also underway inside pictures to follow ....
25 09 20 Shed Manager Frank King writes "Another big step towards getting The Barn ready was installed today, I must say it all looked a tad unlikely at first as can be seen in the first picture but with a bit of roof removal and a wiggle at this angle and a push at that angle it is now installed and another project ticked off the list and a step closer to making The Barn our second shed.
23 09 20 Shed Manager Frank King writes "So I thought I would call in to The Barn and rub down the door upon arrival I thought Oh no what has happened why are Forensics in The Barn it was not until the white suited individual turned and saluted that I realised it was shedder Martin treating the woodworm before we start the next stage. Well done Martin you can keep the suit it suits you. "
22 09 20 This year, 2020, we took over a building called The Barn and part of another building, a garage next to it, that is currently used for machinery storage by Adur DC. We gained planning application approval to turn The Barn into a workshop and have signed a lease with the landlord, Adur DC. These buildings will have been connected to the Manor House. In our planning application documentation, we mentioned that “the buildings have heritage value and internally we will be keeping the animal stalls and making work benches between them”. You can see that in the photos. It is in our thoughts to have a “story board” inside The Barn that will reflect its past and the people and activities there. Please can you help us with that? If you have memories, photos or documents about The Barn that you would like to share with us, we would be so grateful. Our immediate predecessors in the building were The Lancing Horticultural Society. Were you a member? Do you have photos? Did you work for previous council departments that might have used the building. There are stalls and tetherings for horses and ponies in there. In your family, are there memories of the ponies and horses there?
Any comments, thoughts and documents gratefully received! To do that, send a Direct Message, or leave a message on our website at https://meninshedslancingandsompting.weebly.com Thank you!

19 09 20 We have still managed to take on a project now and then as some of our members do have their own workshops/sheds at home, this one is a request from The Parks Department at Adur & Worthing Councils which was for a natural bird box from a Birch log which will be placed in and around Lancing Ring and other areas as we will be making more of these. The project was given to shedder Martin to turn the first one so we can use it as an example for some of our other members to try once we are back open and able to use the lathe, it came out great and will blend in really well once placed in a tree on our local downs and will hopefully attract a new resident as well. These are available to order, please use the message button for more details.
19 09 20 Today`s project at The Barn was to take this old board that was used to protect a driveway whilst a JCB was working in the front garden and use it to refurbish the front door. The project required a Sander, filler, sander again, filler again, sander again, one arm like Popeye and a pot of paint later job done. One re-furbished front door undercoated and looking much better than before and not a JCB track mark in site.
24 08 20 We are happy to be able to announce we are now the new occupants of The Barn which will be our second shed. We would like to Thank all those involved over the last few months to make this happen from the very first conversation inquiring if the building was available for lease to when we received the keys on Monday 20th July we have received so much help and support from all the staff who have been involved at Adur & Worthing Councils from the Parks Division to the Legal Department and Planning Department we are truly grateful to all those who have been involved including the local residents as well who offered their help and assistance during the process. There is now plenty of work to be done to make The Barn suitable for us and we will always bear in mind that it is a Heritage Building and any works carried out will be done so sympathetically, we are planning on keeping lots of the original features inside including the old Horse Bays which is a great feature of the building. So from all of us at The Shed Thanks again to all those involved so far and also all those waiting to help in the weeks ahead. We really do appreciate all the help you give us from donations of materials to funding to advice we truly appreciate you all and would not be able to do what we do without your support.
